The Bulgarian astrologer, who wrongly predicted a devastating earthquake on Easter at the southern Bulgarian town of Haskovo, has offered his apologies to the citizens.
"I want to apologize to the people of Haskovo for the stress that I caused. I want to apologize for lying to them," astrologer Emil Leshtanski told Darik radio.
Leshtanski's prediction that an earthquake, measuring 6.0 on the Richter, will hit the town at exactly 4am on April 19 2009 triggered panic in the town, forced people out of their houses, made them spend the night on the street and brought record-high profits to local insurance companies.
A local businessman has threatened to sue for deliberately causing panic among the population.
"I am not buying this" Tinko Garev said after hearing Leshtanski apologize. " I would be inclined to forgive him only if I see him bearing a placard, saying: "I am a swindler".
