The Sofia Mayor, Boyko Borisov, turned Saturday the first sod of the long anticipated waste processing plant.
According to Borisov, the factory will be completed in one or one-and-a-half years, and will be employing at least 150 people. It is supposed to alleviate the grave garbage disposal and processing issues of the Bulgarian capital.
"The new factory will be a great place where laid-off workers of the steel-maker Kremikovtzi will be able to find employment", Borisov declared as quoted by BGNES.
Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister in change of EU funds, Meglena Plugchieva, pointed out that the waste plant project was being realized in fruitful cooperation between the government and the Sofia Municipality.
Borisov reiterated her statement by saying that "politics is politics but the metro will be started, and the waste plant will be built", referring to the Sofia Metro, which is also a joint project of the government and his municipal administration.
Mayor Borisov explicitly stated that the residents of the Gorni Bogrov Quarter, where the new waste plant will be located, were unlikely to protest, as the plant met all EU standards and no pollution was expected.
