The manager of the infamous "Novera" company, Borislav Lazarov, has been interrogated by the State Security Agency.
The questioning of Lazarov by the State Agency for National Security (DANS) comes on the heels of the request of the City Prosecutor's Office to checkup the dealings of the concessionaire in charge of cleaning the capital, over unconfirmed information that "Novera" owns the shares of the other two businesses involved in Sofia's waste removal - "Chistota" and "DITZ".
The "Novera" spokesperson confirmed for Darik radio that, in addition to DANS, Lazarov had also appeared at the Prosecutor's office where he received notification that "Novera" is prohibited from removing Sofia's waste. The spokesperson said a second order, reversing the current one, could be expected, but added he did not know when exactly or how the waste issue in the city would be resolved.
In the mean time, the Sofia City Hall announced they continued the round-the-clock work to remove the trash in districts where "Novera" has been in charge of the cleaning. The temporary contractors, hired to remove the capital's waste, have deposited 863 tons of trash in the Suhodol landfill on Friday and another 367 tons on Saturday. According to data from "Novera", the average volume of waste removed by them has been 1,100 tons per day.
City Hall employees take turns to show the out-of-town truck drivers Sofia's routes and there are day and night shifts to provide monitoring of the trash removal process.
Sofia's Mayor, Boyko Borisov, extended his official gratitude to Justice Minister, Meglena Tacheva, for granting permission to use inmates to assist in the removal of waste in the city. 80 convicted individuals, serving light sentences in the Sofia jail, will help in the cleaning of Sofia's streets.
