Five ultra modern trams were launched Wednesday in Bulgaria's capital Sofia.
The trams were reconstructed under a contract with the Czech company, Inekon Group, which will renovate a total of 18 rail cars for the Sofia railroad transportation company.
The five new trams will be part of the line five, which travels from downtown to Knyajevo quarter. Their engines and electric systems were changed. New energy saving lighting, modern seats, and lower floors for disabled were installed.
"The trams are passing a test run period. The reports received so far are excellent, because everything is new and specially designed for those trams", deputy Sofia Mayor, Alexander Tsvetkov explained. There is a two-years warranty, he added.
Tsvetkov also said that each one of the trams costs EUR 690 000.
Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov also attended the official introduction of the new trams.
