Ivaylo Kalfin, Bulgaria's Foreign Affairs Minister, has supported Nato's decision to restore and maintain dialogue with Russia, after attending a meeting of Nato foreign ministers in Brussels, a Bulgarian Foreign Ministry statement reported late Thursday.
The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry statement announced that the Brussels meeting had decided that the Nato-Russia Council would resume activities as soon as practically possible after Nato's summit in Strasbourg and Kehl in April 2009.
Kalfin added that Nato should talk to Russia about the escalating problems in Afghanistan, the fulfillment of the Treaty on Conventional Weapons in Europe, the non-proliferation of nuclear armament and energy security.
Kalfin also went on to say that he supported Clinton's proposal for an Afghanistan summit bringing together all countries participating or with an interest in the events in that country. Such a summit should aim to produce rapid results, he concluded.
Ties between Nato and Russia were originally cut 6 months ago following the start of hostilities in the Russia-Georgia war.
