According to Alexander Kanchelov, Director of the Bulgarian Clinic for the Treatment of Addictions, every third man in Bulgaria has a drinking problem, up to 400 000 of whom are addicted to alcohol, BGNES news agency reported Saturday.

Kanchelov stated that "Bulgaria heads the classification of the most tolerant countries to over consumption of alcohol in the world."

The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced a new definition for dangerous alcohol consumption for one of its new projects, which Bulgaria is involved in. The definition states that more than 20 glasses of wine or 20 small beers a week is dangerous for men.

"If we are champions at something, with certainty it is our tolerance to the wrong style of life and the incorrect and over consumption of alcohol," Kanchelov concluded.

Bulgaria is in the top five EU countries for consumption of alcohol per person.
