Student smokers most likely caused the fire that broke out in the National High School for Math and Natural Sciences in Bulgaria's capital Sofia Monday afternoon.

According to fire brigade sources, the fire started as an old sofa placed under one of the staircases in the school caught fire.

The sofa under the staircase was a favorite spot where students would get together to have a cigarette during the breaks or after hours.

All of the students having classes in the school in Sofia's Lozenetz Quarter at the time the fire broke out, were evacuated immediately. No one has been reported injured. Several fire-fighting teams are still putting out the fire.
