Four people died at dawn Friday, in a car accident between the villages of Isperihovo and Novo Selo, in the municipality of Pechtera in Southern Bulgaria, the National Medical Center reported.

Five people have been traveling in a Toyota SUV when the driver lost control and crashed head-on with a water tower. The most probable cause is reported as speeding.

The only survivor is a 17-year-old, who has been flown to the hospital in Pazardzhik with head trauma. His life is currently not in danger.

The 33-year-old driver, and three passengers - aged 16, 17, and 18 have been killed on the spot.

56 Bulgarians have died on the country's roads since the beginning of 2009, according to the Interior Ministry's data. There have been a total of 550 traffic accidents.
