Roads in Western Bulgaria can become very slippery in the next 24-hours, the Bulgarian National Weather Service warned Tuesday evening.

The rain, expected with the warmer air coming form the Southwest, could create very dangerous ice patches on many roads due to the extremely low temperatures right above ground.

The slippery conditions could trigger complete traffic halts in some locations and can be risky for pedestrians. The ice can also damage power lines, accumulate on trees and roofs, which could further lead to harmful incidents.

The National "Road Infrastructure" Agency has also issued a warning about possible traffic restrictions due to the expected ice.

They further inform that traffic on the main "Hemus" and "Trakya" highways could be halted for certain periods of time to give the emergency crews the opportunity to clean the roads.
