Bulgaria's chief prosecutor in the period 1992-1998, Ivan Tatarchev, passed away Wednesday at the age of 78.

Tatarchev's family were founders of the Macedonian revolutionary organisation in Thessaloniki in 1893 and during his life he suffered repressions by the Communist regime.

Ivan Tatarchev graduated law at the Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski and after many year of practice as a lawyer, in 1992 the Bulgarian President appointed him Prosecutor General.

In 1998 he was replaced by Nikola Filchev.
